My new single "Holler" comes out on Tuesday, July 24, 2007
In between dove attacks (a sad but true story), the nice-smelling folks at 7272Music managed to send out a few advance promos of my new single. I can sleep soundly now, because I've finally won over DaveX:
Looks like Matt Weston ran with some of what I said about his previous discs not going “far enough to quite become a noise release”– he sent in a “cd single” (a format I don’t often see, personally) and the track “Holler” just about blows me through the back wall of the studio. I’m especially pleased to hear the editing work Weston has put into this track; disparate volumes, effected percussion, and lightning cuts all contribute to a more fully-realized example of what Weston is capable of. The second track, “Do You Hear Me?” (the b-side?) reminds me a little of a high school orchestra version of Reynols’ “10,000 Chicken Symphony,“ and that’s certainly not a bad thing.
I don't want to spoil anyone's fun by mentioning that I actually recorded "Holler" and its b-side before I read DaveX's review of my previous records. So I won't mention that.
I also want to publicly thank Plum Crane, not just for her irrepressible brilliance as the ThRiLLpiLLow vocalist and guitarist, but for designing the "Holler" cover (that's it up and to the left). First person to guess the inspiration for the design gets a free single. And possibly a half-melted Rocket Bar. No? OK, just the single then.
Don't mention that! *lol*
